Friendly Fitness Playground

Friendly Fitness Playground is an object for dedicated fitness practitioners that, with a little design manipulation, becomes a space for many more activities and so many more people. A wall serves as the primary architectural element from which each decision is rooted. This wall serves as the primary structure for the exercise poles. The wall rotates to create a nook for a small chapel/temple/meditation spot. It also fluctuates in transparency and porosity so that a swing or moveable seating and tables can come into its space for leisure such as mahjong or lunch with friends. Lastly, the wall is painted with bright colours and various apertures that invite playing opportunities. These design moves result in a playful environment that invites a range of users and social groups into its space. Ultimately, this collection of small design tweaks and hacks together transform a typically generic fitness object into an intergenerational playground, serene private space, and sculpture simultaneously, while still creating a dynamic space for fitness practitioners to do their thing!
